Solved: Update to new distro version 9.0 Ubuntu ?
I currently have Kubuntu 8.04.1 LTS (Hardy Heron). Every time there is an update (in the past 2 weeks) it asks if I wish to update to the new distribution 9.0
If I choose "YES", will I end up with an updated Kubuntu or will I loose my current desktop and end up with ver. 9.0 of Ubuntu?
And is this a stable version, or is it a beta?
Any recommendations on whether I should stay with my 8.04 Kubuntu (since I want the stablest version possible)?

The difference between kubuntu and ubunbtu is you are
using the KDE desktop.
The upgrade should not change that.
I upgraded my ubuntu and it didn't change any of my settings.
It is the stable version.

Hi AKA.....
Are you indicating that before I can update to distro 9 I have to update to 8.10, or it won't work?

You can only update from one version to the next...

OK arochester - Sounds like too much work, so I'll just stick with what I have. It has been working really well and I do not want to start changing it to an 'unknown' at this point.
After 8.10 came out, I read that there were several undesirable aspects in its performance and it was still in the beta phase. I never heard that it got to a stable state, and I did not want to search every week to find if there was a stable version.
When a new version announcement comes up on my monitor it would be nice if the announcement also specified whether the version was stable or not and any other useful annotations. The announcement could simply include a link or reference a downloaded text file. That would certainly help people like me.
Any other ideas out there?

It went pretty fast actually. I never actually ran 8.10 other than to use it to install 9.04.

The advantage to staying on 8.04 is that it is an LTS (Long Term Support) whereas 8.10 and 9.04 are interim builds. Like any of us really stay put that long anyway!

There are quite a few good reasons to move to 9.04.
