How to get xubuntu online
Hi,

I have managed to install xubuntu on an old machine (it wouldn't run ubuntu) and i think everything went fine.
Now, the problem is, and I am totally new to Linux, how do I get online?
I have a wireless usb adaptor but other then getting the little light to come on when i connect it, nothing else happens. The network icon says "no network connections" and the system doesn't recognize the adaptor automatically.
What should I do?
Please I need a step by step answer.
Thanks for any help

thank you for replying.
I tried the command you gave me and the result is

Bus 001 Device 002 ID 050d:705e Belkin Components
Bus 001 Device 001 ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

It seems that the adpter is "seen" by the computer as its a belkin and the only usb device connected to the computer.
What's next?

Hmm.

No identifier number!

Does the usb adaptor itself have an identifier number on it - e.g. Belkin F5D7050 ?

thanks a lot for your help, i got connected and.....to be honest I am not even sure how I did it!

I was expecting xubuntu to be very easy and simple but it looks to me quite complicated, not user friendly at all.

Not so much difficult as different. Feel free to come back with any problems.
