My laptop seems to be slow, and i have to click on icons twice or more to execute applications or e.g close the window. My internet does not work. | | Member with 85 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Chicago Experience: Intermediate | | OK, i connected my laptop to the Internet, but I think I have to install some plug-ins to improve overall performance. My laptop is still sluggish, it doesn't respond quickly to my mouse. I have to click on tab 4 or 5 times to change it. | | Senior Member with 234 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2004 Experience: WoW Im StuPeed | | What's your laptop specs? When you installed Ubuntu what kind of install did you do? What desktop environment are you running (KDE is more robust than Icewm)? The more info you give the quicker we can help. | | Member with 85 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Chicago Experience: Intermediate | | My laptop is: toshiba satellite p205. I'm probably running KDE, but i'm not sure. Where can I find info like that? | | Member with 85 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Chicago Experience: Intermediate | | That is what i found in the System Monitor: ubuntu release 9.04 jaunty
kernel linux 2.6.28-11- generic
gnome 2.26.1 | | Senior Member with 234 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2004 Experience: WoW Im StuPeed | | I checked the specs on you laptop and they should be able run without any hiccups. I've never installed Ubuntu but I know some distros offer several application options. It could be possible you have installed a bloated Ubuntu. Get to console and type ps -ef copy and paste for me. Also type df -h copy and paste as well. | | Member with 85 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Chicago Experience: Intermediate | | jacek@jacek-laptop:~$ ps -ef

I think most people use CLAM.
Not sure if AVG makes a free version for Linux anymore.
