Smile new to ubuntu ! cant use internet
hi there!
i recently installed ubuntu to my pc along with my previous OS (i.e. windows vista 32-bit)
it was grt. but i cant figure out one problem :---
i was not able to connect to my broad-band connection. actually in windows i had to enter a user name and a password to connect to internet. but in ubuntu i cant find any such option.
it shows me that i am connected to a wired network, but i was not able to surf the net in firefox.
please someone tell me how to connect to the net by giving a username and a password in ubuntu.
thank you!!!

Is there an ISP application that you run in Vista, which requests the user name/password? If so, is there a Linux version of it?

It sounds as though it MIGHT be PPPoE ???

If that is the protocol you use to connect to your ISP than look at:

you need to get your OS to recognize your nic card.........I'm not at my linux box right now, but (obviously) it's somewhere in settings.

give me a few, and I'll see what I find.

system > admin > network tools. Have it recognize the ethernet card, should be fine.
