Ubuntu problem, maybe?
I'm not sure if this is the right place to go for this problem, but thought I'd see if anyone has any ideas. I use Ubuntu on my home PC, a friend of mine did the install and got me going after some serious virus problems with XP. So far I've been very happy except from some irritating quirks that I'm not even sure are related to Ubuntu and I don't know how to find out.

When I click my browsers back button it will often take me back two or three pages instead of one. When I try and open an email (yahoo) it will sometimes made the screen go gray as it's thinking, then finally open. If I want to click a box for a check mark (like to select an email I want to delete, or to save a password or something like that) I will sometimes have to click two or three times before it will check the box.

I thought perhaps it might be a mouse problem or maybe a Firefox problem since this is all 'clicking' related, but yesterday I opened the calaculator in accessories and I'd type a 7 and it would show 3 7's, hit the bsp button and it would delete two or three numbers, retype and sometimes it would only show one number, other times two is if I typed the key two or three times.

It's puzzling and like I said, I'm not sure what kind of problem this is, so If I'm asking in the wrong place please forgive me.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Lilee,

If your mouse/keyboard is a USB/Optical wireless, like mine, I have experienced similar problems, and discovered that the fix was to change the AA/AAA batteries, and reset each device. However, I don't know if this will cure your problem. With regard to the Back button on the Firefox browser, you might try right-clicking first to see the entire backlist, and select one from that to compare the result.

Other than that, here is a link to the Ubuntu User Guide.

I recommend you join the Ubuntu Forums for more help.

my wireless mouse freaks out like that when it gets low on batteries also. Did you check that and did it work?

Yep, both of those techs are correct! I have experienced the same thing on Ubuntu.

I learned a good while back to buy an AAA and AA battery recharger (I use energizers) and keep a supply of those charged in a tupperware container at my desk.

Better to get a 1000 uses out of a battery, than 1 shot and it's dead andwe throw it away into our landfills...
