2 Ubuntu problems
I just installed Ubuntu 5.04 95% successfully. Right now it's sitting with 0% at "Configuring the network with DHCP," and has been for the last 20 minutes. I'm lost as to what to do.

Second. The graphics package was either not configured correctly or the installation had an error.

I reinstalled it (I think). The first time it said that DHCP configuration had failed; this time it's just hangiang at 0%.

Do I just reformat and then wait for version 9.04 or burn an iso? And then proceed on?

Thanks,

rinsewell, robert rinsewell

Hi,
You can download 9.04 from here (official site):

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Ubuntu 9.10 is due out in a few days.

Hope this helps?

Why 5.04? It's five years old and no longer receives updates of any form.

Hit ctrl-C to cancel that bit and configure the network manually later.

What's 'the graphics package'? x11? graphics card drivers?
What was the error? What's the hardware? Is this the liveCD or the alternate CD?

Personally, I'd be installing 9.04 or whatever the last LTS was (8.10?)

FWIW, the latest LTS is 8.04.

(Released April 2008 and maintained until April 2011 – ideal for large deployments)

I would wait until later today and get the 9.10 if you're going for something new. If you want 100% secure and safe, test 8.04 and see how it does - to me, it was more unstable than the later releases due to the sucky implementation of PulseAudio, so I'm running Karmic Koala (Ubuntu 9.10)

Yeah, wow! Thanks Leeter!

I'm determined to start learning to use Ubuntu and/or Linux. I got impatient and turned off the computer while it was hung up. When I rebooted, all I'm getting is a frozen first page that won't let me get into the BIOS or the boot sequence. I gave up and ordered a replacement from Seagate. From F1 to F12 and delete don't do a thing. I switched the sata connection but thast didn't do anything either.

I'm learning.

I'll check out the 8.04.
Thanks again.

What's the 'first page'?
If it's still in the bios, it might not have anything to do with the HDD. F

At what point in the boot process are the F keys not doing anything?

The initial boot page with the mem test. At the bottom it says press delete for BIOS; F8 for boot sequence.

Oh, I don't think anything is really wrong with the Hard drive, except it's stuck.
