HELP! Error when installing openSuSE 11.11
I know people have posted this before... Okay. Well i got the latest stable version of openSuSE which is v11.11. I downloaded, checked the checksum (md5), burned, verifid the cd and everything.
I put it into my ol' Compaq Presario 7478 and fire it up. It has 192MBs of RAM, all open slots filled. I run it up and got "Kernal panic - not syncing: attempting to kill init!". I read somewhere else that it could be bad ram, so checked it with one out and one in and then vice versa... I dont know what to do... I need this bad, and one little last note to add Ubuntu will not run either. It just loads and loads and loads... I dont know if this has anything to do about this...

You only have 192Mb of RAM.

From the Novell site about Opensuse "Main memory: At least 256 MB; 512 MB recommended"

From Wikipedia about Ubuntu "Memory 256 MB 384 MB*(with compositing)"

Either you need to install more RAM or you need to choose a lighter distro.

With 192Mb of RAM you might be looking at an Xfce distro e.g. Xubuntu, Dreamlinux, Sam Linux or Zenwalk. You might also look at other Ubuntu derivatives e.g. Crunchbang (Openbox based) or Spri (IceWM based)

Ooo... Shoulda checked that lol. Thanks. And wondering does that mean for a live cd... Wait. I have had Ubuntu installed on my really really really really really old laptop, that had 95 on it. It has no 256mb. I'm guessing even less...

PCLinuxOS 2007 is the fastest OS I've ever seen. I'm guessing that's because it uses less hardware resources than any other OS...

No reason to get ticked. Free stuff (really free) is good no matter how you get it...
