Angry Solved: Does anyone know how to get a driver for Linksys wireless system using Ubuntu
Two days ago I downloaded Ubuntu 9.1 onto an old laptop that my wife uses to see if it speeds things up. Everything is working fine except I can't get the wireless working. I contacted Linksys and they charged me $32.99 with a guarantee that they would get it working. They then passed me off to a partner company named Supportrix. They told me that they couldn't find a driver for the Linksys wireless card, so I should give them two days and they would have one made for me. I called back today and the best they will do is email the tech that I was talking to, to see if he would call me back.

Does anyone have a driver or can you point me in the right direction? WHile I may get satisfaction from Supportrix, I would also like to hedge my bets. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Pertinent info:
Linksys Wireless G Notebook Adapter model no. WPC54G ver 3
Ubuntu 9.1 OS

Hi wgman21,

Found an earlier guide, but should be adaptable to Karmic (9.10):
Using the Linksys WPC54G (v2) and WPA with Ubuntu Gutsy.

It will give you a agood idea of the steps involved.

If all else fails, search for: Ubuntu +Linksys +WPC54G +wireless

I couldn't figure it out, so I just took it to the local computer shop. They fixed it in no time and now it is working fine. I will mark this solved.

Hi wgman21,

Could you get an explanation of what the local computer shop did to fix it - i.e. what the problem was and how they corrected it? That information will help anyone whom searches here with the same problem to correct it.

Glad you problem is finally solved.

I'll call him and ask. It definitely had to do with the ndiswrapper. He is some kind of programmer and sort of an ubuntu expert, so it was very simple for him. I'll find out what he's willing to tell me.

I haven't spoken to the tech yet, but I did find this link on the Ubuntu site that they recently made a "sticky".
