Hi,
You could try Wubi (Windows Ubuntu Installer) - works without partitioning:

Just a quick update, loaded Ubuntu up last night, played around with it for a few minutes,
then it CRASHED, all I did was preview the screensaver

Is this normal? Did not expect this at all.

I havent tried 9.10 with WUBI yet, but 9.04 and down has worked flawlessly for me on several machines. Did you let it run the updates? When you say it crashed, what exactly did it do, or is it doing? Will it boot into Ubuntu after a restart, will it boot to windows? You might try an older version just for grins.

I tried to preview the screensaver but for some reason I could not go back from the screensaver. Then after a couple of minutes the pc just shutdown. I have not tried it again as it did not instill any confidence in me. I will try and download on older version. This happened after all updates had been installed.

Thanks for the help...

If it wont boot into Ubuntu and you install another version, i suggest not letting it run the updates automatically. You can pick and choose what you let it install, it will install things you may not want or need in auto mode, and something in the updates may be causing your problem. Get it running stable then start adding or updating, then you have a better idea of what may be causing a problem if it happens after a certain update or program install. 9.04 is super stable out of the box and probably has everything you may need for now.

Installed 9.04 but will not recognise the password I installed. Uninstalled it and reinstalled it but still not recognising the password, think I will give it up as a bad job.

Which password is it needing?

The username is case-sensitive (as is the password), and bear in mind you might have had num lock off for the installer.
