Arrow Drivers for linux..
i have compaq presario v6307TU laptop.
I am about to go for learning ethical hacking.
I have not used linux any time before, i have ubuntu 9.10 and backtrack 4 final OS with me.
I need drivers (audio, video) for these OS`s for my notebook, i mailed HP asking the same there but nothing gud happened...i was told these are third party operating systems and they dont have drivers for these operating system's.
I dont if they do exist or not..i mean if this can be done or not (getting the drivers for linux)..as said using linux first time!!

my notebook has intel 945 express family chipset 128 mb graphic memory, it uses UAA bus drivers and Conextent HD audio drivers...ask me anything u need to know...

Many Linux distributions have many drivers included in the install disc. Load up the live ubuntu cd and see if everything works. If it works then you are probably good to go to do an hd install.

We have a specific Linux forum category. I will ask a moderator to move this question to that forum.

Usually Linux has drivers for those devices. You're getting no picture and no sound?

As mentioned above, everything may work out of the box. I know HP isn`t much help on this, but you may be able to use a tool like SIW to get info on your systems components and go to the mfgs/vendors website and look for specific Linux drivers.

If you are not going to read carefully and do as suggested when you get a message from Ubuntu it's not likely that we will be able to help you either. I suggest you go back to that message and see where it leads you. If still no sound check out DebuggingSoundProblems/KarmicCaveats.

What type(s) of video files is(are) not working?

Most newer distros should work but may require some tweaking .... I had to play around with Debian to get sound nad mpegs, wav's and avi's to work.
