In the configuration file /etc/fstab you should probably have an entry for USB devices. If you remove that entry, no USB devices will auto-mount (as user). You would have to be root to mount the USB devices from that point on.

Are you at all experienced in Linux? I ask this because you'll need to edit the /etc/fstab file as root from the command line or as root with a graphic text editor.

The command to dismount a block device in a Linux root terminal is "umount" (not unmount!).

If the USB device is sdb1 it can be dismount anytime by command (as root)
Code:
umount /dev/sdb1

Hiya, Saikee...

It doesn't sound to me like dismounting is the poster's issue. Seems they are trying to restrict regular users from using the USB ports on this RedHat installation. The system is probably auto-mounting as regular user.

Maybe I'm confused about their issue, though. Wouldn't be the first time I've been confused.

Hi Friend,

A trained technician help will be essential to fix your problem. Moreover, you could have added some additional symptoms for better understanding of the actual solution.

Thanks,
James

Huh? Excuse me here for a moment... but what is the purpose of a tech support forum other than to receive assistance without the cost of paying for "trained technicians"? Many, if not most of us here are trained in numerous fields with years of experience. We're more than happy to help folks who come seeking assistance.

Anyway...
