Linux GUI mode is not Configuring
Pvc9,

I am using only Linux not the dual Operating System in it.
My problem is with the display card, as I have confirumed from Compaq that the compaq systems are built only for windows 9x and 2000 Professional only. I support Linux only CUI not both CUI and GUI.

Hope so this information will help you.

Thanks and Regards,

Naseer

Although Compaq may not "officially" support Linux, you are still likely to be able to run it (unless your hardware is very odd). You might check /var/log/messages, /var/log/kernel, /var/log/syslog and /var/log/XFree86.0.log for clues about your server problem.

Note that startx is usually a shell script; you can obtain additional diagnostic information by running it using the -x option (sh -x /path/to/startx, usually /usr/X11R6/bin/startx).

Hope this helps.

codejockey,
Nice to see your reply. Appreciate all the info.

Naseer,
You might want to re-check with what codejockey suggested.
Just for a trial may be.

Hi,Naseer.
When you say you installed Linux 7.0 ,what distribution are you referring to?Red Hat or SuSE ,for instance?
Is the video card a Matrox G200 AGP?If so, here's what I found at the Red Hat HCL page.Looks like you need the "xf86_svga" xserver and the "matrox" driver-both of which are on the installation cd.HTH
