Lost under the big RED HAT . . .
OK ..... here goes:

I finally installed Red Hat 7.0 on an old Compaq Deskpro 4000. I am brand-spanking new to Linux.

I created a new partition on the 2 GB HDD just fine ...... loaded the OS on just fine ..... boots fine and asks me for my login and password just fine ...... now I have the following line and basically don't know where to go from here:

[tekgal@localhost tekgal]$

Then there's a prompt. (Tekgal is my username obviously). I thought I'd be wise and type in KMD to try to get to the KMD desktop, but came up with this error:

k control: cannot connect to X server

This is all quite fascinating to me. I'm just at a loss and thought perhaps some of you Linux Lads & Lasses could show some insight.

Thanks!

Thanks PVC9 !!
Thanks to PVC9, I found out that by typing the command STARTX it works.

Now .... onto the next step! Thanks again, PVC9.
