Ubuntu Update Manager issue
I run Ubuntu alongside my Windows OS, using Wubi.
I was using it fine, and then I ran Update Manager to install the things it suggested. That ran it's course, then asked me to reboot. I let it reboot, and when I tried to get into Ubuntu again, it wouldn't. It would restart computer again, and ask me to choose an OS again. Repeat, and repeat.
I see a short error flash by, but it goes so fast I can't see it.

What should I do? I believe my last resort is to use Wubi to reinstall ubuntu again....

That's what I do now. Having fought for several days trying to resolve a problem with Ubuntu after an update screws the pooch, I just uninstall in Windows and reinstall - much quicker and keeps the frustration under control.

However, having said that - one of the guru's will be along shortly that may be able to offer a better solution.

I would rather have a better solution.

When I first installed Ubuntu, it had a problem with my network driver and that took a while to fix. Now that I know how, it's not a hassle, but more of a bother if I had to do that again.

Thanks for the reply.

It's been some time since I used Wubi, so I forget ... Is your only choice (other than Windows) to do a normal boot, or do you have the options for a recovery boot or boot to a backup kernel?

If you don't have those other boot options then I think that your only recourse short of a new install is to use your backup--if you saved the Ubuntu file along with your other data or if you have an image of the Windows partition.

What is Grub version that fails to boot?

Advice for Grub1 is different to Grub2. Think Ubuntu V9.04 can have either but Grub2 seems to be the default in Ubuntu V10.04.
