Thanks
I was just under the impression that zyon wanted to be rid of Lilo and restore the xp bootloader without re-installing xp.Re-reading his first post,it appeared to me that he still had Lilo installed and it was looking for the secondary boot image(boot.b)hence the "LI".
But as I dont use XP(I like 2k better)I was going by what I'd understood(from using 2k) to be the correct procedure to restore a bootloader for an NT-based OS.
And thanks again for the compliment.I like reading your posts too

Exclamation huh?
Hi pvc9 & lynch,
sorry to trouble u guys again!
i understood the cause of my laptop problem already, but still i missed a step before solving it.

i followed the guide as mentioned by pvc9, which i:
created a set of bootup disks of 6 for XP Pro
next, booting up by using this disks &
get into the XP DOS (light blue background with white letters), there are 3 options in it

-to set up XP now, press ENTER
-to repair a XP installation using recovery console, press R
-to quit setup without installing XP,press F3

when i selected the 1st option, it require a cd(i assume the XP installation cd)

but as i select the 2nd option, i was brought to another DOS (black & white, just like those in 95/98/Me). there are few lines of words:
"1: C:\WINDOWS
Which Windows installation would you like to log onto"

without any doubt, i pressed "1" & then fill in the admin password.

a new line appeared "C:\WINDOWS", i type in "a: [ENTER]" (with the 6th boot up disk in floopy drive)
then "fdisk \mbr [ENTER]". but what i get was "the command is not regconised". i tried the same thing in "c:\>fdisk \mbr" but it doesnt work too.

any clue to solve this?

thanx in advance!

zyon,
Np

Use the same link that I posted above or try this. Its much better -

WinBootDisks

Download the program to create the bootdisk for Windows 98 SE and try with that disk and not the Win XP one.

Try with that and get back.

zyon,
Any of them would do but the Win 98 OEM one could be a better option.

That was a very very small problem that you experienced.

I'm happy to see that you feel you're on top of the world

Glad that everything is fine and continuing the way you want it to.

PS : Just wanted to add on that me becoming a Mod is a very time taking process, so plz wait till that can be done lol, for voting I'll send you the PM

Have a great day!
