Red Hat 7.3
I installed this standalone on a Pentium II 200MHz box. It runs and boots VERY slowly and certain functions seem to crash. (sorry for vagueness, I haven't used it much)

Is this activity normal? The install seemed to be very smooth (I had NO luck configuring X with Mandrake previously).

I just can't seem to do anything with this box. I'm trying to learn in my spare time though. Any suggestions as to where to get some good tutorials for beginners?

Thanks Everyone!

The behavior you describe is not normal (even for modest hardware). You might start at www.linuxnewbie.org for some info that may be helpful.

Hope this helps.

Codejockey make a good suggestion about Linuxnewbie.org.They have tutorials called NHF(newbie help files)
I have found in some cases that using an older version of a distribution works better on some older computers. Its not always the case but works a lot of the time. You can usually pick one up with a book to go with it at just about any bookstore's bargain bin
