Question Need help install RH 8.0 next to other Distros
I have a pentium 4 pc that has a 40 GB HDD partitioned to 14 pastitions. i have installed on the following on it:

Redhat 7.3
Debian 2.2.6
Turbolinux
Suse 8.0
Slack 8.1
Mandrake 9.0
All the distros i installed after RH went ok.
Now im trying to instal Redhat 8.0 to another parition, and when i get to the place where i have to choose the partitioning type, no matter what i choose from the 3 options, this is what it says:
"The Partition table in hda was unreadable. To create new partitions it must be initialized causing All data to be lost."
then if i press no it will exit.
does anyone have an idea?

How mush space do you have left on that hdd?And what bootloader are you using?Maybe it thinks you're trying to upgrade 7.3.
I searched around for any release notes that would shed some light on this but had no luck.I'm interested in knowing why this is happening and if I hear anything I'll post back.
Good luck

I still have at least 12 GB of space. Im using Lilo. and what im thinking is maybe because im trying to install to the extended partitions.
I have Redhat 7.3 on primary1, swap on 2, 3 and 4 are empty (primary also).
then i have the others starting from hda5 (extended).
im not trying to upgrade. Even if i choose upgrade, it doesnt allow.
what im doubting is maybe the size of the HDD (40 GB).

thanks

Mike, still trying to find out why RH * doesnt want to install
Is it possible for you to list the exact layout of your hdd,ie. open an xterm and type:
fdisk -l
to see your partition table?
I know this link wont help but I thought you might find it interesting

i can see the partition table and everything looks ok.
i still have 4 empty partitions and the others seem to be fine.
the thing is that RH is not detecting the hda.
