Question Linux on older lab top?
I have an older lab top that I was hoping to install linux on. Right now it runs windows 98se, but I don't want a dual boot ar anything, just a clean erase and linux as the new operating system. The machine is a little slow so I didn't know what version to get.

Toshiba Satelite 220CDS
Pentium 133MHz
Supercharged with PCI Bus and 256K L2 Cache
16mb ram
1.34 gig hard drive
cd/disk...

I've heard very good things about red hat linux and was hoping to get that, but I have a feeling it couldn't handle 8.0. I'm having trouble finding the hardware requirements, any suggestions on where to find the requirements or which version of linux to get?

The website was informative and gave great instructions on how to make a dual boot system on my labtop with RH Linux 6.0 & Windows 95, but unfortunately I still don't know what version is best for me to run. Is RH Linux 6.0 my best option, or should I try 8.0 I want to know what the minumum system requirements are for these OSs.

Ok, I realized I can't run version 8.0, so does anyone know where I can download an older version of Red Hat Linux?

might want to consider bsd... you can run it on a p75mhz with 16mb ram... minimum for redhat 7.2, is 64mb ram, and 2gb hard drive space for a server install [command prompt only, no gui] you should have at least a 5-10gb drive, and your processor should be fine...

Does FreeBSD have a nice look and feel to it, or is it all unix text commands? Also, will the 1.3 gb hard drive be enough for the standard instalation or should I go for the minimal instalation? Thanks for the help.
