[SOLVED] Good CD distro for laptop?
I am wanting to try out Linux, and am looking for a good distro to use.

I would like:
Booting off CD, not needing to install anything.
Compatibility with laptops/hardware.
Small size; easily fitting onto one CD; ~300Mb max.
Windowing system installed.

The laptop I have is ~500mhz with 64Mb of RAM, and I have access to a CD burner and broadband, although not on this computer.

I looked at the liveCD or whatever it's called, that comes with UT2003 demo, but the size, 700Mb, is too large for me, and I wouldn't be able to run UT2003 anyway.

Large number of apps is not important, as I already have experience with most of the ones ported to Windows. Neither is Internet support, although that would be nice.

Thank you.

Both of those are a bit too big for my taste. However, I do have broadband, so it isn't too bad. Right now I'm downloading the SuSE CD, as none of the DemoLinux mirrors were working.

Right now the download is 19% done, with an estimated 24 hours left. I'll post something once I've tried it.

My last two posts didn't work too well.

The iso I tried downloading crashed halfway through. I think that downloading a 600Mb file is too much, even on my broadband connection. I looked for another distro, but could not find anything. I may just need to wait until someplace is giving away CDs, or until I have a secondary computer I can use.

I would just buy a cheap CD, but I lack a credit card at this time. I might get one in the next few years, but am in no hurry.

On the other hand, I might try grabbing a download manager and using that to compensate for the intermitent interuptions. Don't worry, I'm looking for one that does not include spyware.

Well, Christmas is coming up, and right now I only have a 64Mb RAM stick on my list. I think I'll add a CD to it.

OK. After looking everything over, I will put Knoppix on my Christmas list.

Did you have any problems with ordering from Cheapbytes?

How do I put the [SOLVED] in the post title? Is there a special checkbox somewhere, or do I just edit my first posting.

Have ordered from Cheapbytes several times without a problem.
I think a Mod has to tag these threads. This must be peculiarity of this board,as all the others I'm a member of never ask to close threads when they're solved or resolved Nor do they tag them when asked by the thread starter. You may or may not have a PM.Cant tell if this thing works.

What's your specs? I have an older laptop and when running GUI (KDE) it is especially slow.
