Thanks for your continued help flrman1

Today I went out for a few hours and cam back to see the usual blue screen with the usual message:

The problem seems to be caused by the following file : Ntfs.sys

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGEDAREA

Technical info:
***STOP: 0x0000050 (0x8A010FFD, 0x00000001,0xF85D8FC3, 0x00000000)

Ntfs.sys - Address F85D8FC3 base at F85C9000, Datestamp 3d6de5c1

Don't know how relevant this is but looking in event viewer there are loads of errors in system and application from yesterday. Examples in system are event id 10005, 7001, 7026. Examples in application are event id 8193 and 4609.

A lot of the icons in control panel are unclickable and search and run are unclickable.

When I get in to control panel and switch to category view and then pick a category all the links under pick a task are blank - there is no writing there - but if you click on them they all seem to work. So you can get in to a lot of control panel things this way but you don't know what you are selecting.

Also, every now and then internet pages will just close down for no particular reason and my dial up will appear asking if I want to disconnect from the internet.

thanks

Update
Okay also I have been reading other old posts on here and one says that ntfs.sys should be here: c:\windows\system32\Ntfs.sys

well I can't see it there on mine. Also there is a folder that stands out in c:\windows as it has different colour fonts (blue) to the rest it is called $NtuinstallQ328310$ and in it is a file called sysmain and is an Appfix package. Not sure if that added info is any good.

I looked around google and it said that maybe the problem is driver related so I had windows update scan for updates and there was one driver update for my display adapter so I downloaded it. I have one blue screen crash since then and it had a different message to the ones I have been normally getting it said:

Stop 0x00000024
(0x001902fa, 0xb2174f20, 0xb2174c20, 0xf85d9043)
Ntfs.sys - address f85d9043 at f85c9000

Thanks

These type errors are usually caused by hardware problems.
