Hello, also having the similar situation with the trojan downloader.agent.5.P identified by AVG..network status shows activity but am unable to log on....also unable to delete the calsp.dll file ...is this trojan know by any other name need help thanks

have also tryed the reseting of the tcp/ip as suggested but to no avail

This seems like an easy fix with regards to the CALSP.DLL. You might try booting to your win xp cd. Once you get to where you can choose some options, you will want to choose the repair counsel mode. This will take you to a True DOS screen. at the window> type cd system32 at the windows\system32> type del CALSP.DLL. I did this and the trojen as well as the file were gone ... Good luck and let me know how it works out for you

Before you do anything, I would like to see a Hijack This log. Have you tried LspFix?

Thanks for the help, no I have loss connectivity with the internet on the infected pc. Can I download the LspFix to floppy or cd and run on the pc .

Yes you can Download LspFix to a floppy.

Click here to download LspFix

Launch the application, and click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox.

Check all instances of calsp.dll (and nothing else) , and move them to the "Remove" pane.
Then click Finish.

Now start your computer in Safe Mode and delete the C:\windows\system32\calsp.dll file.

See if that restores the connection.


If it does, please do this:

First create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This.

Now Click here to download Hijack This. Download it and click "Save". Save it to the Hijack This folder you just created.

Click on Hijackthis.exe to launch the program.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

The log should open in notepad. Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hello heres the second HijackThis log after running LSPFix and deleting the calsp.dll file and reconnecting to the internet. I have ran AVG and Ad-Aware was able to heal trojans downloader Lookme.F healed, Istbar.5.R moved to vault, and the Agent.5.P healed from the C:\Recyclers.... Please take a look at the posted log and let me know where to head from here.....thanks ....back on the road to recovery..oh yea should I go ahead and install a firewall like ZoneAlarm....

Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options".
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete this file:

C:\windows\system32\taskmgn.exe

Do not delete taskmgr.exe.

Delete this folder:

C:\Program Files\VVSN

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.


Empty the Recycle Bin


Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Restart your computer.

When you are sure you are clean turn it back on and create a restore point.


Go here and do an online virus scan.

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the exact file name and file location so you can delete it yourself.


To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

HijackThis log .....ran HJT scan after following all of your above instructions...no problems except could not find the C:\Problem Files\VVSN to delete...the 04-HKLM\..\Run: [VVSN] process was deleted "fixed" in HijackThis... did expanded search but could not come up with anything....HouseCall virus scan came back clean... any need to worry....also should I reset folder options to default...thanks so much for the help...

Your log is clean. but I see you have both Norton and AVG antiviruses running at the same time. This is a bad idea as it will cause conficts and actually reduce your protection, not to mention the strain on your system. You need to choose one and disable the other.

Now turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.

Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.
