Subsequently, I ran "Ad-Aware" and it found five (5) "threats" associated with Aluria. These were never found before in my weekly maintenance runs. I removed them, of course, but this morning I found many settings had been "messed with." Fortunately, there was a system Restore Point available prior to the Aluria download and installation, so I am running satisfactorily now.
Question: Is Aluria's "Spyware Eliminator" known to install adware/spyware?

However, if you scroll down to 'Special cases' and 'Notes on U Control', you will see that the author does not recommend Aluria products because of their links with a dubious company. | | Distinguished Member with 54,702 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2001 Location: *Random People Pleaser***Sacra Experience: Having fun | | Yea they turn around and joined up with a add company Aluria. Too bad a good program went bad. | | Distinguished Member with 5,323 posts. | | Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: West Glenville, Sch'dy Cty, NY Experience: Intermediate | | Thanks for the responses. After posting yesterday, I did a Google search and came up with a number of links. One was for a "Wild Tangent" removal tool. "WT" is associated with the adware outfit Aluria is now packaging. I forgot to mention that "Spybot" found "WT" at the same time the Aluria references were found by Ad-aware. I believe my "Spyware Eliminator" program is OK so long as I do install the present upgrade suggestion, since I had no indication of problems before downloading that upgrade. {redoak} | | Moderator with 95,979 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2002 Location: South Eastern PA, USA Experience: Advanced age & experience | | I suspect you'll see more of this as Spyware gains in notoriety. What better way to slide some spyware in that to claim you're protecting the user against it? | | Distinguished Member with 5,323 posts. | | Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: West Glenville, Sch'dy Cty, NY Experience: Intermediate | | CORRECTION: I meant to say "do NOT install" in my immediately previous post. Sorry for the typo!
