| Malware problem HJT enclosed. Help!!! Please!!! May have a problem. Daughter has downloaded something that sent emails to all her MSN messenger contacts. By the time I was alerted to this, the PC (running XP) would not even start up. I made it start in Safe Mode and ran Adaware, Spybot, AVG virus and spyware scans as well as Symantec Antivirus which was on the PC before the incident but seems to have been disabled. A 'full scan' takes a second and the items it does pick up it leaves alone! Now the PC is 'sort of' working I can see that on start up, it tries to send emails, the screen fills with Symantec warnings that my email server is being given a hard time! Long story short .... the scans I've done have produce all sorts, among them Purityscan, Smitfraud C, Zango, Trojan horse Collected AF, Trojan horse Downloader Generic MUZ. 372 entries from the AVG scan alone. Even those that I can clean come back at next start up. BUT, if I start the PC in Safe Mode (with networking), the emailing thing doesn't happen, I have internet access via a wired router. If I start the PC normally but pull out the Internet connection, again it's OK. I'm assuming that there's a program somewhere loading this rubbish and hope the enclosed HJT log will reveal it. I was thinking whether In should just do a clean install of the OS, rather than faff about finding whatever it is that's going on, assuming that would even work. Any help would be much appreciated.
