Hello. I've been experiencing some problems on my computer the last day or so. I've run Spybot, Ad-Aware and now AVG Antispyware.

First it started when I kept on getting this popup. I accidently installed it (I was playing a computer game and it popped up right when I tried to click something). I then uninstalled it, but the popup is coming on quite a bit (every five minutes to be exact).

I believe the site for that program is http://www.sysregistry.com/ Also, windows media player started to crash unexpectedly

After this I fired up Spybot and Ad-Aware. They found some things and then some Torpig trojan, which they removed. I have no idea if i worked or not though. I then did a Pandascan that someone showed me earlier, and it found five viruses and said that they had cleaned them. I have no idea if that worked or not.

I just did a AVG Anti-Spyware scan and found Trojan.Sinowal.bh, Trojan.Prockill.DJ, and Downloader.Small.edb. The recommended action was quarantine so that is what i did. I've downloaded windows defender and some a^2 program but i haven't run those yet. Because I thought coming here would be better first.

I just found your thread whilst looking to see if the ctpmon.exe was the cause of the problem.

The pop-up box you are seeing is the ctpmon.exe process. It is very easy to get rid of (so far it hasn't returned).

Firstly, in windows explorer broswer to c:\windows\system32 and find the file ctpmon.exe.

Rename this file you something else.

Then open regedit and go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and delete any keys mentioning ctpmon.exe, then go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and repeat the delete.

Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
