Solved: TIBS C killing me!
I opened what I thought was an email from an old classmate about our upcoming reunion, and it was nothing like what I expected. After closing and deleting the email from Outlook Express, my outbox scanner was very very busy, and my memory usage was at max. I new immediatley that something was using my address book, so I temporarily renamed the .wab extension to .xxx to thwart the little bugger. It worked, but SBC Yahoo! Anti-spy keeps finding the TIBS C trojan and can't remove it. I have tried AVG Anti-Spyware, ATF Cleaner, NAV, Kasperky, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot, AdAware, Panda ActiveScan, and AT&T Anti-Virus, but TIBS C continues to show up in my Anti-Spy scans.

It has these 10 objects in the registry:

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_runtime value:nextinstance

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_runtime\0000 value:class

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_runtime\0000 value:classguid

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_runtime\0000 value:configflags

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_runtime\0000 value:devicedesc

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_runtime\0000 value:legacy

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_runtime\0000 value:service

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\enum value:0

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\enum value:count

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\enum value:nextinstance

Here is my HJT log from today:

By the way, I did not run any of the AV programs while another was installed. Most were run first in safe mode and then in normal mode.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
  • Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the script.
  • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log

That seems to have done it. SBC Yahoo Anti-Spy scan came up empty this time.

Should I fix the red.client*** items in the Hijackthis scan?

It's really dry and very warm too!

You're welcome, happy I could help!

Good idea to create a new restore point:
  • Start go to All Programs
  • Accessories, System Tools and select System Restore.
  • In the System Restore wizard, select "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
  • Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup".
  • Click Create and you're done.
