* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe.
Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Okay that's more than enough.
Are you familiar with msconfig?

Built into Windows is a special tool called the "Microsoft System Configuration Utility" or simply "MSCONFIG." Designed to help you troubleshoot problems with your computer, MSCONFIG can also be used to ensure that your computer boots faster and crashes less.

What I can do is - go through the list of the programs that you have running at Startup - and can tell you which ones don't necessarily need to be running. You can then disable those. It really will come down to your preference on what you want running and what you don't want running.

It's okay, they are listed in your Hijack This log.

We can start with some easy ones.

Go to Start>Run and in the Run dialog box type in 'msconfig' and hit Enter.
System Configuration Utility will pop up (if not read the notes at the beginning of the page). It has several tabs (like on a Rolodex) but you will only really need one - the Startup tab.
Starting from the top of the list, uncheck items that you know clearly you don't need to run at startup.
So uncheck the following:

[World of Warcraft GameCard Generator.exe] G:\World of Warcraft\World of Warcraft GameCard Generator.exe

[ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe

[PhotoShow Deluxe Media Manager] C:\PROGRA~1\Ahead\Ahead\data\Xtras\mssysmgr.exe

[Aim6] "C:\Program Files\AIM6\aim6.exe" /d locale=en-US ee://aol/imApp

[RocketDock] "G:\Program Files\Vista Inspirat 2\RocketDock\RocketDock.exe"

[msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background

Adobe Gamma.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe

Once you have removed all the items you have determined you can and should from the list, click the Apply and OK button. It will ask to restart your computer. Allow it to.

Once your computer boots back up, you are going to see the System Configuration Utility box pop up again - letting you know changes have been made and that you are now in Selective Startup mode. Don't panic, this is perfectly normal! Just checkmark the box to not remind you again.
