Angry Solved: help with removal of sillyDI DJM
I am going nuts. Have tried everything to no avail. You are my last hope before I reformat my entire harddrive. I upgraded my adobe reader to adobe 8 from their website at Christmas time. Immediately after downloading my computer went crazy with unwanted popups etc. When I in google I will try to go to a website and it redirects me to some advertising sight. Sometimes my computer crashes and sometimes my CPU usage goes up to 98-100% and just stays there, then I have to shut it down and reboot which takes forever. I have run McAfee, also A2 squared, adaware, spybot s&e, they have found a trojan but tell me it cannot be removed.

Hoping somebody can help

Hi Welcome to TSG!!

Please close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix and make sure you are disconnected from the Internet after downloading the program and before scanning.
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix and remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
  • Remember to re-enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the Internet.

Download ComboFix and save it to your desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have ComboFix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running ComboFix.
  • WARNING: IF you have not already done so ComboFix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts.
  • Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until ComboFix has completely finished.
  • If there is no Internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore the connection.

Double-click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts. When finished, it will produce a report for you. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.

**Note: Do not mouseclick comboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply with a new hijackthis log and the combofix log.
  • Click Close to exit the program.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Upgrading Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 3.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Download WinPFind3U.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named WinPFind3u on your desktop.

Open the WinPFind3u folder and double-click on WinPFind3U.exe to start the program.
  • In the Processes group click ALL
  • In the Win32 Services group click ALL
  • In the Driver Services group click ALL
  • In the Registry group click ALL
  • In the Files Created Within group click 60 days Make sure Non-Microsoft only is UNCHECKED
  • In the Files Modified Within group select 30 days Make sure Non-Microsoft only is UNCHECKED
  • In the File String Search group select ALL
  • in the Additional scans sections please press select ALL
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Save that notepad file but click on the "Format" menu and make sure that "word wrap" is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Please post the resulting log here as an attachment.
  • Click on the orange Post a Reply! button
  • scroll down to Manage Attachments
  • Click in the box that says Upload File from your Computer
  • Click the Browse... button and find the file then click open
  • Click the Upload button
  • Wait until you see Current Attachment and your file name
  • Click on Close this window
  • Then submit the reply.

Start WinPFind3U. Copy/Paste the information in the Quotebox below into the pane where it says "Paste fix here" and then click the Run Fix button.

Quote:
[Kill Explorer]
[Unregister Dlls]
[Registry - All]
< Winlogon\Notify settings [HKLM] > -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\
YN -> tuvvwtu -> tuvvwtu.dll
[Empty Temp Folders]
[Start Explorer]
[Reboot]
The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. CLick the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here along with a new hijackthis log..

I will review the information when it comes back in. Post a new hijackthis log also.

last instruction did not work
I followed your instructions.

After I click run fix the icons on my desktop disappear then the work reboot appears in the fix window 8 times and then my computer just hangs. Task manager will tell me that the program is not responding.

Not sure what to do.

Thanks

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

2. Copy the entire contents of the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Quote:
Files to delete:
c:\windows\system32\tuvvwtu.dll

Registry keys to delete:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\tuvvwtu

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh hijackthis log.

You don't need a lot of the applications you have in start up. Example would be QTTask.exe:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/star....exe-4341.html

You can use the link to bleepingcomputer to check all of your startups and decide if you want to start them manually or leave them in startup.
You don't have to delete them and don't do it with hijackthis, use msconfig to just remove them from startup.

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK - "Startup" tab.

<< Remove what you want to remove >>

Click Apply - OK afterwards, then reboot. When the SCU window appears during reboot, ignore the message. Place a checkmark in the window, then click OK.

If you decide you want something running that you have disabled just use msconfig again and uncheck the item(s).

You can and should remove all of the tools I requested you to download and/or folders associated with them now. It is pointless to keep these tools around as they are updated so frequently that the tools can be outdated within a few days, sometimes within just hours.

OTMoveIt by OldTimer has a CleanUp! option you can use to remove most of the fixes and associated files and folders if you want to use that. If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTMoveIt attempting to contact the internet you should allow it to do so.

It's a good idea to Flush your System Restore after removing malware:

Almost there
thank you for all your help. I have followed all your instructions and it seems like the computer is almost back to normal.

One little thing, when I am online on a webpage and go to follow a link, I will get an error message telling me it cannot find that page. Most of the time these are major webpages, i.e. UPS.com, ATT.com etc., for example with UPS I was trying to track a package and I go to the page for this enter the # and then when it try's to redirect it tells me it cannot find UPS.com. This is happening frequently and has only been happening since all the changes we made.

You're welcome!

I have the same problem on my machine that runs IE7. I suggest going to add/remove programs and removing IE7. Next run http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm this does not work with IE7.

If everything is ok you can try installing IE7 again if you want to.
