Red face Solved: Is my computer still infected?
Hi, I posted a thread asking for help regarding 6 Trojans found in Windows XP and said that I think it infected other computers that we use since we use flash disks to transfer data between each computer. This is one of the other computers and this was the first computer I plugged the infected flash disk that came from the developing center. Since this is 1 of the computers we use for the business, I would like to find out if this is still infected and if so, clean it so as not to affect the others and have possible loss of important data.

I posted this as a new thread since it is a different computer altogether. Thanks in advance and the HJT log is posted hereafter.

Also, tried removing my McAfee AV since I already have AVG but the mcdetect.exe won't be erased. I checked the startup tools and my taskbar but no mcafee stuff are running anymore.

Does it? AVG found another trojan worm (autorun.inf) yesterday in C:\ as it did a full scan. It was automatically healed afterwards, though. Weird thing is, I didn't download anything from the net..I only used it to run my IM and check emails and research. I did a full system scan today and there were no threats found (thank goodness!) but every time during scanning, AVG has been asking me to change my kernel32.dll and shell32.dll but when results come out, only threats are healed and no prompts for changes of the 2 dll's are mentioned again.

What are those 2 dll's for and why do you think AVG keeps asking for them to be changed?

Sounds like a flash infection.

Download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs from >here< and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.

Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder...it will help protect your drives from future infection.

So I don't have to worry that AVG is always asking me to change kernel32.dll and shell32.dll every time my computer automatically runs a full system scan?

This is what shows up in my AVG Free AV scan:

File Result/Infection Path
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
kernel32.dll Change C:\Windows\System32\kernel32.dll
shell.dll Change C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll

Thanks!

This appears to be a normal function of AVG: http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php?8,102002,sv=

It's a good idea to Flush your System Restore after removing malware:
Turn off system restore and then turn it back on: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405

Now you should Clean up your PC
