I don't think deleting those will make any difference but you could try.

Yes I would format and reload.

Reloading XP
I guess I don't know or understand the difference between the "No-Reformat, Nondestructive Total-Rebuild Option" and what you refer to as the "full format and reload". I went to the other thread you suggested, and followed the link http://www.windowsreinstall.com/. I am not choosing the "To Repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R." I am starting off by following the instruction "To set up Windows XP now, press Enter".

However, while the site refers to a reinstall as a "Repair", those instructions mimic exactly the steps I already followed. So I am guessing I need to follow a different set of instructions to do a "full format and reload". Do I need to post a new message on the Windows XP forum to get assistance with this?

You can post in the XP forum if you want but indeed it does sound like you started from scratch.
When I say format and reload what I mean is put the CD in and set up XP just as you described. If you get the option to format the drive I would do that too.

Any other ideas?
I went through the whole thing twice and didn't see anything about an option to format the drive, so I don't think I had the opportunity to do that. Unlike the first time I did it, this last time it completed successfully all the way to the end (desktop came up after rebooting and it finished copying some files from one directory to another). I still don't think things are quite right. It made an improvement in that I can actually use my profile again, but it is still inconsistent and slow. Any other ideas for anything I could do?

One other idea I had was to switch from McAfee to a different antivirus software. It seems like McAfee really drags the performance down. I temporarily stopped it from running on startup and things seemed to move along a lot more smoothly. (Obviously NOT a good idea to make it a standard practice and have no antivirus running!)

AVG Report File
I downloaded the application and ran it. Although there were "zero" infections, the warning count was 62. I assume that I should have the program remove/fix these objects, but I thought I would check with you first. Log file is attached - let me know if I should eliminate everything in the list.

Yes, you should have AVG fix or remove the objects.

Performance Much Improved
I wanted to wait a couple days and login a couple different times to make sure that the improved performance was not a fluke. The AVG fixes appear to be legit - performance is back to what I would consider normal (or even good). I am able to open applications and connect to the internet and complete all functions normally and there is no slowdown or performance degredation.
So I think I am good. I will close the thread and make my donation unless there are any other cleanup utilities you think I should try.
Thanks!
