My Windows XP computer has been acting strangely for the last few weeks. Here's a list of most of the problems:

1. Svchost.exe is often taking up 100% CPU usage, according to Process Explorer. At the same time of the CPU usage spikes, there is no internet activity in Firefox (ie. when trying to load or refresh a web page, nothing loads, it's as if there's no internet connection available) until Svchost's CPU usage starts dropping. Windows Live Messenger still works, and I think IE still loads pages, but I haven't completely verified that it does, since trying to load IE while CPU is at 100% is difficult. These spikes occur about once every 15 mins-2 hours. I have also tried disabling Automatic Updates, but it doesn't help.
2. Starting up Windows takes much longer than usual. After the usual taskbar icons load up, something (I believe it's also Svchost) starts taking up 100% CPU usage, and the icon for Shaw Secure (a rebranded version of F-Secure Internet Security from my ISP) displays "malfunction" for a few minutes before going back to normal and processor usage goes down.
3. This is an issue I've been having for several weeks. I've been getting random BSoDs that appear to be caused by the GPU driver, sound driver, and/or Windows. At first, they were caused when I tried to play a graphics-intense game, but it required a better graphics card than the one I had; that was understandable. Then the Stop Errors came when I wasn't trying to play the game. At its worst at two weeks ago, I was getting BSoDs every half hour; it seemed to have gotten better, but I got two of them today.

Last week, AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 detected Trojan.Legmir (3 instances), Dialer.Generic, and Adware.Megasear. CWShredder detected CWS.Smartsearch twice on two different instances. All infections were either cleaned or quarantined. None of the other anti-virus/anti-spyware programs I scanned with (F-Secure Internet Security, Ad-Aware, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot S&D, Panda Anti-Rootkit) have found anything - I actually scanned with AVG-AS after running most of the other scans.

Additional details: no BSoDs, but Svchost problem still very bad. The problem's especially a nuisance because I am losing a lot of productivity during the CPU usage spikes. Even though I can still use IE and Opera, the 100% CPU usage makes it hard.
