Question What to do?...
Hi! I really hope you could help me with this. I have two problems with my computer, first, I have a really bad virus that when I connect via USB, a certain file transfers to the memory card of the device connected and everytime I delete the file, it pops right out again until I disconnect the device. When I try searching for that file in my computer, it could not be found. The antivirus that I have can detect it. However; it states that the file could not be opened, hence it could not be removed from my system. Here's the second problem, I try installing a different anti-virus but when the setup window appears, the window closes. This happens even on other setup windows and programs. Even the task manager. I can't remember when this started and I have no idea what may have caused it. I hope there is another way of solving this besides having my computer reformatted... or buying another computer ... Thank you. I have Windows XP Professional SP2. By the way, I tried downloading HJT, but the same thing happened, as soon as I got the window asking if I'd want to run or save, the window closed. I tried clicking on download again but the window just froze up and was making odd thudding sounds.

Wink okay...
Hi everyone, I can't seem to edit this post so I just posted a reply instead. Okay, I think I know how I got the virus (or the worm) on my computer. Apparently, it was a worm from YM that some smart-guy who was using my computer downloaded or something. It shuts down eveything that it senses may be a threat on its existence (including the task manager, my windows security and my anti-virus). It's also the one responsible of transferring files to other devices that I connect to my pc. Hope the additional information helped. Oh, and I finally got to download and install HJT, but once the scan finishes I can't get to save the log. But it's progress, somehow. I'd keep on trying. Thanks.

Welcome to TSG

Please click Here to download HijackThis to your desktop.

Click the Download button. When the Trend Micro HJT install box appears, double click on the HJTInstall.exe. Click on Install.

It will be installed by default here: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis

A shortcut to the application will also be placed on your Desktop.

The program will open automatically after installation.

You can double-click the icon that was placed on the Desktop to run subsequent HijackThis scans or you can use the icon inside the folder. The folder HijackThis is where you will find the HJT logs that you save. When you use the application to remove anything, you will also find the backup copies made by HJT inside this folder.

Close all other windows except HijackThis.

Click on "Do a system scan and save logfile" When the log pops up in Notepad, copy and paste that file back here.

Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------
