I get a message that says

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
It has a button that says diagnose connection problems and when I click that I get the following message:

Windows can not connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP.
This probably caused by firewall settings. Check settings for HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21)"

Open HijackThis and click on "Config" and then on the "Misc Tools" button. If you're viewing HijackThis from the Main Menu then click on "Open the Misc Tools Section". Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" button. Copy and paste that list here please.

Go to Control Panel - Add/Remove programs and remove these:

ErrorDoctor
Java(TM) 6 Update 2
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Did you recently upgrade to IE7 and is that around when the problem started?

Control Panel
Removed those programs and rebooted. Not working as yet.

Upgraded to ie7 about three weeks ago. The internet problem started one day before my first post.

Thanks for not giving up!

I would suggest rolling back to IE6 to see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't we can run some fixes on IE6 that won't run on IE7. You can always reinstall IE7 later. Just uninstall it in Add/Remove programs and it will revert back to IE6.

Update
Wasn't able to get online. Didn't mention that in previous reply.

Also ran the diagnostic again and it gave me the same error message.

Question
I am communicating to you with my lap top.

I went to the site but how would I get that software to a computer that has no internet access?

Couldn't figure how to get that info onto a memory stick so I can transfer.

I thought you were able to connect using Firefox? If not, you should be able to download the program to a CD or a flash drive to install on the problem machine.

Update
OK downloaded to memory stick and installed in problem computer.

It wants " Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD is needed"

I pulled out my re-installation CD for XP Home and it states includes service pak 1a.

This may tie into a another problem I have had for about 6 months. I have been unable to download all updates offered. I click update and it says installing 1 of 12.

After the screen flashes do not shut off , it says installing 1 of 12, 2 of 12 until it is done. they it shuts down. When I restart I get a small balloon that says click here to download needed updates. From this I can only assume needed updates not successfully installed.

I expect you to run away screaming at any time. I really will understand if you have put enough time into this project and need to stop to help others.

I do appreciate everything you done to help me with this problem.

Lets try this Automated Windows Update Fix.
  1. Download WUFix.zip and unzip to your desktop.
  2. Double-Click WUFix.bat to run fix.
  3. You will see a window open and commands processing. When the window closes the fix will have completed.
  4. Restart the computer.
This fix will clear the proxy cache, places Windows Update sites in the Trusted Zone, places Windows Update sites in the exception list of IE Popup Blocker, starts all dependent services, registers required DLLS, empties the Windows Update temporary folder (with backup), renames the catroot2 folder, retains update history and Event log, and deletes BITS pending download queue.

Can't get that file to open. Get an error message screen, and that's on the computer that's working.

Tried searching the file on Google and each place that I found it I had the same problem.

Is it me?
