I downloaded a particular software trial and found it did not do what I wanted so I deleted it using an uninstall software I have had for over two years.

Immediately after I could not get online. I get this error message

"Windows can not connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP.
This probably caused by firewall settings. Check settings for HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21)"

I would normally use restore but for some reason it stopped working about two weeks ago.

Running a virus scan now and it is almost done and no problems.

Can anyone help?

What was the software you uninstalled?

Click here to download HJTsetup.exe.

• Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
• Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
• By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
• Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
• Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
• Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
• At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
• Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
• Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
• Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
• Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
• DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Note: During this process, it would help a great deal and be very much appreciated if you would refrain from installing any new software or hardware on this machine, unless absolutely necessary, until the clean up process is finished as it makes our job more tedious, with additional new files that may have to be researched, which is very time consuming.

Also, please do not run any security programs or fixes on your own as doing so may compromise what we will be doing. It is important that you wait for instructions.

Go to Start - Run - type in cmd and click OK.

At the command prompt type in:

netsh winsock reset catalog

Press enter.

then type in:

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

Press enter.

Reboot and post a new HijackThis log please and let me know if you still have the problem.

I attempted to check the six items mentioned in a prior message but they don't appear any longer.

Rescan with HijackThis, close all browser windows except HijackThis, put a check mark beside these entries and click fix checked.

Go to Start - Run - type in cmd and click OK.

At the command prompt type in:

netsh winsock reset catalog

Press enter. WORKED OK

then type in:

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

Press enter. Got this message The following command was not found
int ip resetlog.txt

I didn't run a new hijack log as nothing has changed since our last message.

What do you suggest I do now? I have rebooted still no Interent access.

In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically

Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be available on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Clicked on Local Area Connection 2. Got properties. Left clicked but there are only 3 tabs: General, Authentacation, and Advanced. No networking tab shown.

For your information I must leave on a trip Monday morning and will be gone until early Thursday morning.

I still only find 3 tabs. But looking around I found the radio dial mentioned. It was already checked.

Did the rest and rebooted. No Internet yet.
