| Solved: My IE7 has been hijacked Hi I'm hoping for a little bit of expert help from this forum. My IE7 stopped working properly two days ago. I'm basically getting redirected. My home page is fine but when IE7 opens it not only opens at my home page but also spawns approximately 6 other tabs and/or new windows with different locations. Sometimes its gambling sites and other times its porn sites. I'm also getting redirects to shopping sites and property sites. If I leave IE7 open and leave it for a while, when I come back it has spawned a few more tabs. It may also be unrelated but at the same time my keyboard has stopped working in fits and starts. It misses letters out intermitently - is this perhaps a keylogger, I don't know? At other times IE7 simply won't launch at all and this is a real inconvenience - more so than the redirects! I have Windows Live OneCare which states my system is perfectly healthy when it clearly isn't. Below is my log from HJT -can anybody help me please get IE7 working properly again?: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 20:32:28, on 07/05/2008 Platform: Windows Vista SP1 (WinNT 6.00.1905) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6001.18000) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exe C:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\GrooveMonitor.exe C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\hpwuSchd2.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\winssnotify.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe C:\Windows\ehome\ehtray.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmpnscfg.exe C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia PC Suite 6\PCSuite.exe C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia PC Suite 6\PcSync2.exe C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe C:\Windows\ehome\ehmsas.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nokia\MPAPI\MPAPI3s.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqSTE08.exe C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe C:\Windows\explorer.exe C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ieuser.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Windows\system32\SearchFilterHost.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - | Hi, Welcome to TSG!! Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from Here or Here Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

My Windows Live OneCare is now complaining about the following trojans: Trojan:Win32/Vundo.ED Trojan:Win32/Vundo.FAW Trojan:Win32/Vundo.EJ I won't do anything with these until I hear from you.

Sadly not. Just the severity level (Severe) and what the trojan can do. I decided to clean them using OneCare in the end since the trojans sounded very detrimental to my system and not something I could afford to leave on. I don't understand much about trojans and was unsure whether leaving them might spawn other variants of them. I cleaned them last night and this morning OneCare is not complaining about them. What should I do next cybertech? As I type this IE7 is not spawning any more browser windows and wasn't doing last night either. I think running that MBAM utility may have fixed this but I'm not sure if perhaps something is lying dormant on my system.

OneCare found another trojan this morning. I'd not even connected to the Internet since last night. Switched on my laptop this morning and thre it was: Trojan:Win32/Vundo.genID I cleaned it using OneCare. I've performed a scan using OneCare and a deep scan using MBAM and neither is finding any issues currently. One thing that seems a bit odd presently is that the system doesn't seem to think I'm an administrator any more. As I'm the only user on the system and installed the operating system myself from the Vista installation discs I find this a little odd - surely I should be administrator by default? It seesm that some programs require me to elevate them to 'Run as administrator' whereas previously I don't recall them requiring this. Is my system clean now do you think?

Oh fantastic! Does this mean my system is now 'clean' cybertech? If so I'll mark this as fixed and then make a donation as your help has been invaluable.

One other question I forgot to ask - should I change my online passwords as a result of this security breach - things like banking password etc? I don't know if these have been compromised or not?
