Hello, could somebody tell me from my Hijackthis log if my PC has been infected with trojans, hijackers or malware? After updating my PC with AVG free 8.0, it is showing all kind of warnings of trojans and such. Could these be false positives from the new version of AVG free? These things show again after a few days and after some scans in between show nothing but cookies. Also, my PC is booting up painfully slow now but besides that, really doesn't show me any other problems that I can tell. I am including my Hijackthis log in this email. Thanks for your quick reply andyspeake...I have researched this topic after I posted this thread and came to the conclusion that when I updated to AVG free 8.0 from the 7.5 version, it was in conflict with my Spybot S&D and Spywareblaster anti-spy programs and was causing false positives on my virus scans with the AVG free 8.0. I uninstalled the 8.0 version and reinstalled the 7.5 version and the virus scans come up clean now with the 7.5 version. Hopefully Grisoft will be able to do a fix in their updates before they discontinue support with version 7.5.

I would still feel more comfortable to know if the hijackthis log shows anything I should be concerned with if you could let me know this. There is no signs of malware showing in you log, do you have any problems after uninstalling the update at all ?, any symptoms?, lets be on the safe side a do a few scans...

Download and Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• Then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply.
• If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this: C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

• The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
• Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
• Now click on Scan Settings
• In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    • Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
  • Scan Options:
    • Scan Archives
    • Scan Mail Bases
• Click OK
• Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
• The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
• Now click on the Save as Text button:
• Save the file to your desktop.
• Copy and paste that information in your next post.

So please post Malwarebytes log and the kaspersky results.

Thanks andyspeake. I accidentally ran a quick scan on the Malwarebytes program which got rid of "Adware.PopCap"...I then ran a full scan, which showed nothing, also ran the Kaspersky scan which also turned up nothing. Here are the three scans logs...

• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:

• Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
• Select Create a restore point, and Ok it.
• Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
• Select the More options tab
• Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.

This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.
