Do I Have newfolder.exe Worm or What?
Hey guys,

This is my 1st time @ TSG so I need some serious help. How do I know that I have newfolder.exe? I am not so sure because my Task Manager is disabled by my admin and my computer is slower than before I think.

A exe file of more than 100 kb is found also and is named to that of the folder in which it is suppose it is C:\Documents and Settings\new user\My Documents\My GameZ\Max Payne, there would be a Max Payne.exe file in the folder.

So do I have the newfolder.exe worm or what? How do I know which virus/worm do I have? I used to have the Brontok.E worm which I deleted via CompactAV and Brontok Washer before.

Please let me know as I threw out my pen drive without realising I could delete it.

Thanks!

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Ok yea, I tried with HijackThis but my friend told me to DDL TrueSword (5MB) and i did so (though it was shareware but with 9 free delete-virus options)

Thanks anyways!

BTW, I deleted the BHO from a spyware I had and it went away. Does that work. (Spyware was the freevirus-scan.com spyware)

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

Kind sir,

May I know what does ComboFix does? And I hope you dont mind if I put in my 2nd PC's log coz I had a recent spyware and malware attack! And I deleted my hosts file so the part of Yahoo's searchpage disappears (and auto.msn.com comes)

Quote:
ComboFix is a program, created by sUBs, that scans your computer for known malware, and when found, attempts to clean these infections automatically. In addition to being able to remove a large amount of the most common and current malware, ComboFix also displays a log when it is finished that contains a great deal of information that an experienced helper can use to diagnose, retrieve samples of, and remove infections that are not automatically removed.
