Trend micro not connected to internet hijackthis startuplist installer zip executable Trend micro “not connected to internet” hijackthis, startuplist, installer, zip, executable I do not do forms often, but; the need for help with security issues requires me to. This first post will be my starting point. Not expecting all computer issues to be resolved at once, I submit this for your review: Trend micro hijack this: 1. “not connected to internet” Blocked by firewall? 2. three to choose? I should know the difference? Installer, zip, or executable attached: A. hijack this file still needs analyzed because of no connection? B. startup list needs lots of work, you may have a look, please don’t lol too much? After going directly to the source (trend micro) vs. dnload.com etc., following their instructions to download and all … when I tried to analyze this, the program sent me pop up window, it informed me I needed to connect to the internet. Possibly connection blocked by firewall? That is as far as I got and for not just shut it down to post this and look elsewhere for much needed answers. INFO: running xp on an hp Compaq laptop Running far too many security programs I’m sure: Norton, AVG, spybot, antivir pe, ad-aware, trend micro hijack, to name a few, Ready to take most of them off once I resolve the situation of my expired Norton and their lack of, or costly($) support situation. ORDER OF EVENTS:- read quick start guide: http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/qsg
- observed some of FAQs: http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/faq
- looked at download page: http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
- went around in circles, to find out which of these three choices I needed to take:
- I chose A. installer, it just sounded the best: http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe
- run was chosen
- following the quick start guide, as best as it was written: http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/qsg
- I did the scan only
- My second group of choices to make: the to do order wasn’t clear to me “save log” or “analyze this”
- I chose save log
- Then analyze this: THIS GAVE THE POPUP, not connected to the internet, duh, I see this a lot, is it one of my firewalls? Not sure which bothers me more: some program saying this or internet explorer not displaying a page and saying I’m not connected to the internet. As for the later, I have an idea that my ISP filters or is not prepared for my unusual method of connection.
- also; I continued with the start up log found on the quick start guide: had issues there as well, I just don’t understand how the notebook files got moved around or possibly out of their expected folder, not going into detail about all that, but I have to mention that similar issues have happened with AVG from grissoft. Their files logs etc get saved as ms office Excel type files, go figure! I forget the name IT pros use for people like me who get their computer in the shape mine is in: it is defined as “the ____ behind the keyboard”? possibly someone has heard of that acronym and would like to remind me?
- following are 2 files 1. hijack this 2.startup list:
