Windows Pro Police Virus problem.
Hi, I'm having an issue with the removal of this virus. I have sorta however removed the virus for the most part it just appears that it has caused some serious damage. I followed many forums on how to remove the virus. They suggested going through C:Program Files and finding the program and deleting it. This didn't exactly fix the whole problem it appeared that NO programs would work I investigated this problem and came across a couple forums saying that the desote.exe and desote.dll were to blame for the error messages and not being able to start a program. So using my brain I said "lets delete it" so i did that. Bam! just like that all the error messages gone! but wait... now when I attempt to start a program it says "Please Choose A Program to run this with" Its not recognizing the .exe as Program files. So figuring I was in pretty deep, I did what appeared to me as Logical. I ran my WIN/xp Pro cd in boot menu from bios and did an OS repair. Now suddenly after all that my OS won't even start I get a black screen.. I can't start in safe mode or nothing.. Obviously I made a mistake. My only thoughts on a repair now.. are leaning towards format.. and reinstall.. Only issue I NEED the files on this Computer... For computer Specs: Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition, 2 gig ram la la you know the story. Its a basic Dell XPS 410 system. I would really some help on this one. Perhaps there is a way to reverse the damage caused by me and the this wonderful "Windows Pro Police" virus
