I've been having a problem with malware reappearing. I have McAfee Security Center and Malwarebytes Anti-malware. McAfee sends multiple alerts from the real-time scanner, then I scan with MB, and get a few infected files. Reboot and the log appears clean. Then I connect to internet and within a minute orso it all happens again, with the McAfee virus alerts, etc and I notice these files reappearing again
C:\Documents and Settings\David\Application Data. seres.exe, svcst.exe and lizkavd.exe.
This is linked to the fake XP security warning in the systray with the red circle and white cross, saying my PC is infected. In Task Manager processes it shows seres.exe svcst.exe restorer64_a.exe and _EX-08.exe. I think the restorer_64a is linked to Fake.AlertDK in McAfee.
Also in regedit (HKEY CURRENT USER) I noticed mserv (seres?), restorer_64a and svchost (svcst?) in ...CurrentVersion>Run and in
(HKEY LOCAL MACHINE) I noticed restorer_64a and a weird one with name: smasufe, data: RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\ilesadiy.dll. (not sure if this is malware btw)
I also noticed zavupd32.exe in Startup folder. After going through the usual process of scanning removal + manual deletion of reg entries, b4 I rebooted I deleted the ilesadiy.dll file and unchecked it's box in MSCONFIG startup, and deleted zavupd32.exe. Then I rebooted and before connecting to internet, I changed my McAfee firewall from Automatic to Stealth.
This time the McAfee trojan warnings haven't appeared and the fake red circle/white cross in the tray hasn't shown. I'm concerned that my PC is still badly infected and I don't fancy changing the firewall back from Stealth mode, because it'll allow outbound-access again.
Also I'm now noticing in Firefox and IE6 that when I click search results, I sometimes get redirected. I've ended up at Stopsign.com, 2010softwarereports.com (fake Anti-virus sites?) and other sites...I hit the back button, try again and usually the proper site appears...
I've attached a fresh HJT log, the last dirty MBAM log, and all the recent real-time detections McAfee has found (look from 16/10/09.)
I'd be very grateful if someone can resolve this!
Edit: I can only see the attached files for my post not other posts, so maybe they're blocked to everyone? I'll paste the HJT log here anyway:
