"security update" that says i have 15 mins or it will be restarted
I am having a similar problem with my xp. The latest "security update" that says i have 15 mins or it will be restarted.... this update takes away my windows system 32\rundll.exe file and then none of my icons in control panel or my clock work. I did the custom install as mentioned above. Also, I have had this problem twice and had to restore twice, one time today and one time a few days ago. How can I keep this update from hurting my computer and having to install. This update took away the file above. Thanks! I do not want to reinstall everything on this computer. I have too many important programs and some of the programs are directly acquired from vendor download and some are on a external hard drive in storage which I cannot get into. Thank you for your help. <Removed by Moderator, please do not put emails or phone numbers in post> I live in New Orleans. Thanks again for your help! A quick reply would be great!

Please do not post your e-mail address if you do not want to be spammed to death. Also, a phone number is even worst!

You should edit your post at once.

Not sure if your problem is really Windows Update related.

Please start your own thread as it may become confusing helping more than one member at the same time. Then,

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Do not fix anything

'Reply to Phantom 010 re. missing run32dll exe file
Hi,
Thanks for your mail and for your help. Prior to your mail/comment, I ended up fixing my computer when it happened again, but it is probably going to happen again. I had restored 2x and copied the now replaced exe file to a folder on an external hard drive. It did happen again....same missing file. You are right; it was not the Window's Update. It could have been Spy Sweeper. At any rate I replaced the missing file with the copy of the one I had saved from the last restore and all works fine. So you may see that the system32 folder has the run32dll file. I did install HijackThis and ran the scan and log file. Your message said to post this notepad file to my next post. And I am. It is rather long!
Thanks for your help!!
Kathleen

the gurus on this forum, will decode - only people with a shield against the name can assist with malware - but it may take 24-48 hours to get a reply as its so busy here
