Internet instability
hey there,

so a couple of days ago, when i went to open the internet on my laptop, i found that when the browser was opened, all the text was written in chinese...and within 4 seconds, the Internet shut itself down...
i thought it might be a virus/malware, so i did a full scan with my symantec antivirus (corporate edition)...the scan turned out a couple of infected 'downloaders' but even after deleting those files, the internet was acting the same way

i then tried to do a system restore....then i found that the system restore function has just ceased operating...when i click on the shortcut, nothing happens...

i'm really confused right now as to what is going on with my computer...
i tried to open some files, just to see if they're ok, and nothing's happened to them (which is a huge relief)

my laptop is a Dell Latitude D610, with Windows XP Professional Edition as its OS

what's going on?
and what do i do to fix it?

appreciate any help
thanks

Hi Billy:Chinese or it looks like Chinese?
Try booting up in safe mode with networking.See if the result is the same.

OK.That would tend to eliminate a normally started task as the culprit.
My guess would be that the folks here will probably next want to see an HJT log of your system.Think there are instructions on the Malware thread.Let me take a look and get back to you.
OK here is the link, but since you do not have internet access, hopefully a tech here can give you further instructions.

When coming to this thread, you'll notice it's going to say "moved" to the Malware Removal & HijackThis Logs forum. You'll then be able to continue in the other forum.

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING CORPORATE/COMPANY OWNED COMPUTERS

Please do not request assistance for corporate/company owned computers. Many changes/deletions are made during the clean up process, some of which may involve uninstalling programs, deleting folders/files, changing settings and/or removing policies etc. As we have no way of knowing for sure if these are actually needed for company operations, malware issues in these cases should be handled by your own IT Departments in order to avoid any undesirable results.

Considering this computer appears to belong to oracle one of the biggest tech compnies in the world, I strongly suggest contacting your tech support at the company

i know it says oracle, and that's because it did indeed use to be an oracle-owned computer, until my mother bought it out from the company...it's now a home laptop

that computer is set up to work on oracle network & goes through a proxy server on the oracle network

Oracle should have cleaned it fully of all settings & sent it to you as a clean new computer

I can't in all honesty work on this one because all information showing in the log shows me it belongs to Oracle

I am closing this topic now

the most advice I can offer is

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop
from HERE or HERE

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to the following:

Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Then click Finish.

If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Press Update to make sure the latest database is loaded.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
Please include this log in your next reply.

It might ask you to reboot to finish cleaning. Please do so. ( Press YES on the alert)
If you receive an (Error Loading xxxxxxxxxx .dll) error on reboot please reboot a second time . It is normal for this error to occur once and does not need to be reported unless it continues on every boot
