Well, I just removed Windows Vista and downgraded to XP and there is no problems with it.

Now however I have converted to a Mac and I'm no longer using a Windows machine so I'm not sure exactly.

I am having the same problem as you with my Sony DCR-TRV250 and Vista. Just wondering if you were ever able to get it working.
