- Electronics, Electrical and Industrial Software Design Engineer. (Retired)
I built my first computer in 1978 (Built here means:- soldering all the components onto the [then commercially available] printed circuit board). At that time I designed and made all the additions to this machine, which was programmed in BASIC and in Machine code, later I installed an EPROM which enabled me to programme in Assembly Language. Programmes were stored using a cassette tape recorder, initially at 110 baud, but with a bit of thought I got this up to 8,000 baud quite reliably.
Since about the end of ’93 I’ve programmed in Visual Basic Pro. Version 3.0 and still do if I need a small utility because I have the expertise and still have all the documentation and because surprisingly, it still works with XP Pro. These days because of the restriction of a maximum of 8 characters in a file name in V3; I’m trying to come to grips with Visual Studio 2008 but with only the inbuilt and online help, it’s definitely a challenge. - Interests
