- 21-Nov-2010 01:45 AMcroakingfrogHi Guys re my problem the DVD drive no longer recognising the presence of a DVD and odd messages of short duration mentioning divergence ot the associated Codec _ thought the Codec would have been out the somewhere and I found lots but I wasnt able to do anything much with them A buddy of mine sat with me 2 nights ago and after some head scratching said ' I feel the Codec chip in the DVD drive - (not out there in the clouds) is intermittenly failing -- eventually installed an old drive all now functions as it should - I truly thought the Codec was a downloadable thing to be used by Windows now I know it's not - I sent this mesage hoping it may one day be useful to other dummies like me Thanks Guys Cliff
