streaming music and downloading
I am a complete novice at computers so be gentle with me.

I found a music web site that I like: but it only has streaming music.

The only reason I want the music is to download it so I can play it in my car.

Is this legal or not?

If it is okay to do this: how do I do it?

I have never done any downloading of any music in my life from a computer.

Can I download a streaming music or not?

If I can't or shouldn't: then there is no reason for me to pay money to have a streaming music web site: because I only play music in my car when I am driving, not when I am at home or on the computer.

Any information about this will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi and Welcome!

In general, if the website you are accessing does not offer you a method of downloading the music for personal use then it is most likely copyrighted material that you are not allowed to copy.

Thus, yes, it would be illegal to download it using secondary software.

Such a site would be www.finetune.com where you can create playlist and after you have created your playlist you can listen to the FULL songs without a fee. They even allow you to embed your playlist on blogs and so forth.

If you were to “capture” this in another way, then reproduce it, you would be infringing on the actual copyrights.

Thanks and have a great New Year!

Shane

so:
IN that case: paying money for a streaming music web site is a waste of money for me

if I can't record it onto a cassette to play in my truck: I have no use for the site since I don't listen to music anywhere else except whem I am driving.

Thanks for the information

Now wait……… If you are paying for the site, you need to check your agreement! It is unusual for a site to make you pay, but not allow you to download. Some sites do have a “membership” fee for accessing them music and videos, then they charge you a minimal fee to “burn” the songs.

Read your agreement with them and see what it says.

If I may ask, what site do you use?

Thanks!

Shane

What is a cassette? (Just kidding....You are probably the only person I know that still uses those)

If permission has not been granted by the artist and/or label that holds the copyright to those songs it is illegal to download them as a stream.

Which site are you streaming from?

Rollin
