Computer solution for voicemail?
Hi all, I'm new here. I've been working with computers a little bit recently but my currently employer stumped me with her latest request. We're getting a 1-800 for our client base and operations, and we'd like some kind of call-forwarding to be included. I know there are business solutions for this out there, but I'm not aware of any computer-based deals that do the job (I'm a complete VOIP n00b, though, so please correct me if I'm wrong). What's the best way to go for something like this?

Are you looking for a service or a product? I use www.kall8.com to forward 800 numbers to our local numbers. They're cheap, but check around -- there are a lot of competitors. www.gotvmail.com is another.

If you're looking to build a system that works with your VOIIP, check out www.asterisk.org

I think VOIIP is a phone service only, whereas what you're looking for is more a routing/voicemail service? Although there are probably Voiips that do both. Not sure. My company actually uses the service listed above, Gotvmail and we've been happy with them-- never heard of the others, but I know gotv offers the functionality you're referring to, a 1-800 number and forwarding to "extensions" -- each employee gets their own extension that can run to a landline, or mobile, or treo, or whatever. The nice thing about services like this is that it negates the need for a receptionist if you're a small company, and you can still sound professional with the personalized voice greetings. So, your employer is on the right track, I'd say, just check out a few of these options.

I used kall8 in the past when I needed it, it also has the flexibility to allow you to block calls from certain states, exchanges, etc.

Another company to look at is http://www.ureach.com (I have used them very regularly for over 7 years), it does call forwarding, and you can set up daily schedules to where you want your 800/8xx number calls forwarded. It also has faxing capability and the ability to listen to your voicemail and email on the go and being paged on your cell/pager for selected messages. They have different plans depending on your needs, and some free trials. http://www.ureach.com/templates/reg/signup.htm?express
