Want to change the boot ordder and start my pc from cdrom. I have an attached cdrom. Went into bios but nothing is listed about boot order as is on my other newer pc. Here is what is listed:
safe mode
safe mode with networking
enable boot logging
enable VGA mode
Last known conf
directory service restore
debugging mode
Deable auto restart on system failure
Start windows nomally
reboot
return to os choice menu

Selecting any of these takes me a bios page that states"Please select the operating system to start" Microsoft windows xp pro is the only choice

You're trying to get Windows to select the bootable device, you need to do it earlier in the boot, it's the BIOS that determines the boot device.

That is exactly what I am trying to do. How do I get Windows to select the bootable device ( cd rom) early in the boot?

You start by telling us the exact make/model of the laptop. "older" doesn't convey enough information.

Hmm... I can't find any reference at all to that model number. Even using Toshiba PL11L or Libretto PL11L doesn't bring up anything.

This is actually a Toshiba Libretto L5, was only made for the Japanese market. Search for the L% and you will find what you need.

That L% had to be L5.
