VCR/DVD and HDTV
I have just purchased an HD LCD TV and was wondering what type of VCR/DVD combo would work for recording shows in HD. Is it possible to record shows in HD instead of SD format on VCR? I've seen terminology such as upconversion and upscaling HDMI, but I'm not sure what it means. Are these features something that I need to look for? Would I need an HDMI cable for both the cable box and another one for VCR/DVD?
Also, I had another question. Is it possible to record one show while watching another from a cable box?
Thanks in advance for any help.

No, you are not going to record any HD formats on VCR. The quality is vastly inferior on VCR's. The best you can do is to record a converted signal with a great loss of quality.

So, then it doesn't matter what type of VCR/DVD that I buy?
I don't need one that mentions anything about HDMI?

You can't record anything coming over an HDMI interface on a VCR, and your TV will only have HDMI inputs, not outputs. I have a Samsung VCR/DVD combo with an HDMI output, but it doesn't input anything. Another issue will be the aspect ratio, HT-TV is 16:9 vs. 4:3 for the VCR NTSC recordings.
