Here's a huge question!
Ok, I have a HUGE question!
I'm going to Europe this summer and I am considering taking my laptop with me. However, due to the fact that the European power grid runs on 220 Volts, I have to use an adapter to plug any of my electronics in. I know for a fact that that power grid will fry hair dryers, but my concern is what will it do to power bricks for laptops?
Should I consider buying another power brick and extra batteries for the trip or should I leave my laptop at home?
My main concern is weather or not the power brick would burn out due to the 220 voltage over in Europe.
If somebody could get back to me and let me know what they think. I'd like to know so that I can make a better judgment about what to take with me.
Thanks.

If your power brick is rated the usual 100-127 VAC then yes 220 VAC will burn it out. You should be able to tell from the label on it. If it is not rated for 220 VAC use then get one that is. Batteries on the otherhand should not be affected, the one you have now should be OK.

thank you, you just made it a lot easier for me.
This will help a lot.
I will get that info out to those I know of who are also taking their laptops.

Most newer laptops come with a switching power supply that is rated for 110/220V, and all you'll need is probably the plug adapter. I checked all three laptops here, an Averatec, HP, and Toshiba, all have universal power supplies.
