Talking Getting a laptop
Hi, I've been looking at getting a new laptop recently as my old one cannot handle the new software that we are getting at uni. That, and I would like the option to play the new games coming out.

I've been told that Asus and Acer are the ones to look out for, but as long as they're durable, good-quality, and affordable, I'm not too fussed to be honest. My only exceptions are:

-Comes with core 2 duo
-Graphics card 512 MB
-Overclocking option (If possible)
-Under $AUD1000 (If possible)
-Lightweight, easily portable
-Preferably XP, but not bothered if its Vista

If anyone has seen any good deals or know of any good products that fulfil the above criteria, I would appreciate your input. Thanks.

Stay away from Acer, there are a few negative reviews of them here. I like Dells (though many here don't) but when looking for a 512MB graphics card, AU$1000 is a small budget.

Only high-end gaming laptops have 512MB of video RAM. Those models that do will not be very portable and will certainly be more expensive.

Rather than relying on the word of mouth of friends and even Internet posters, read some formal reviews before making a decision. Also, talk to the University to see if they have specific requirements or even discounts on computers.

Thanks for the tip. Uni doesn't really offer discounts on laptops, we have a Mac shop, but the discounts aren't really worth it, and plus, I'm not really a fan of Mac. The graphics card isn't too much of a priority really, I can deal with 128-256 MB but oh well. Thanks anyway.
